I love listening to my iPod on long car rides. It makes the longest, crappiest, traffic-filled drives around this area so much more tolerable. Yesterday, during one of those trips, this came on:
"The Finer Things," Steve Winwood
"The Finer Things," Steve Winwood
I was in high school when this song was released (shut up...). I loved it so much, I rushed out to the mall to buy the album on cassette (no, really...) and would listen to it in my crappy hand-me-down boat of a Buick, flipping the tape over and over to play it again and again. For years, I'd probably counted "Back in The High Life" as one of my desert island discs; each song just seemed so hopeful, so upbeat, even the ones about love and loss. I eventually replaced the tattered tape with a CD but somehow it got pushed to the back of my collection. It's finally on my iPod now. I'd forgotten just how much I loved it.
What are some of your desert island discs? Share with the class!

I remembered to participate this time! Yeah. And I even made it about ...baseball. Go figure :)
Flipping tapes over. I remember that! This is a good song.

I'd have to give that some serious thought, but for sure I'd pick the two first CD's I ever bought, INXS-Kick and Paul Simon's Graceland. Haven't had any long road trips lately, but I did spend several hours cutting my lawn yesterday. I was thankful to have my iPod even though I could barely hear it.
I love that album and listened to it over and over and over!
It's been so long since I've heard that song OR Back In the High Life, wow! Need to download some songs now..
James Taylor sings harmony in "Back in the High Life." Listen closely, and there he is.
Yes he does!
I know you like this album, not-so-Anonymous. I think you borrowed the tape from me many times. :)
I can honestly say that buying cassettes doesn't make you old. But only because I am from the cassette era too.
Love that song! Nothing has been inspiring me lately. Absolutely nothing. We've been listening to a lot of Laurie Berkner (who I love way more than any other kid's music) but that's about it.
Know what? Stevie Winwood always annoyed the crap outta me. I'd change the station as soon as I heard his voice. And just thinking about him put that stupid 'High Life' song in my head... dammit...
;)
I definitely remember that feeling of rushing to the music store to buy that hit cassette. Would love for you to check out my site and even review my album if you get a free minute. Check me out here: http://www.sonicbids.com/2/epk/default.aspx?epk_id=260156
Aaahhh, memories! Gotta love the eighties!! Btw, you are NOT old (cause if you're old, that means I am too!)
